The new Boardman ADV 8.9 Adventure Bike uses a light but strong aluminium frame and tapered carbon fork which combine for great comfort on and off road. Adventure specific geometry gives a more upright sitting position which is more forgiving when the going gets more cchallenging and a low bottom bracket lowers the centre of gravity to give more stability and control. Schwalbe G-One tyres are tubeless ready and with a 38mm width have plenty of grip when its needed.
The ADV 8.9 is now fitted with the new Adventure specific Shimano GRX groupset which has an optimised range of gears for off-roading and are paired with powerful hydraulic brakes delivering an immediate response. Thru axle wheels offer rigidity and durabilty and pannier and mudguards mounts ensure the 8.9 will be just as at home on the daily commute as on a countryside dash.

More About The New Boardman ADV 8.9 Adventure Bike
Lightweight frame and forkThe ADV 8.9 is built on an Adventure specific, alloy frame for easy handling. It varies from Boardman’s road frames in a number of ways: The geometry is designed with off road riding in mind, and is designed so that the rider sits in a more upright position meaning you can spend hours in the saddle in comfort. The bottom bracket, where the pedal arms meet, is lower which drops the centre of mass, helping the bike to feel extremely stable in all conditions. The ADV 8.9 also features a full carbon, tapered fork which is wider where the forks meet the frame and therefore adds steering precision and stability. The 8.9 also features thru axles on both front and rear wheels which add strength and rigidity to the package for better power transfer
Adventure specific drivetrain
A recent addition to Shimano’s line-up the 2x10 GRX (RX400) groupset is designed for this ever-more-popular style of bike. The 2x set up means the perfect gear will always be at your fingertips and with a 10 speed, 11-36 tooth cassette there’s great low and high options enabling you to both climb and descend quickly and efficiently. This adventure specific drivetrain features a clutch mech which enables you to firm up the rear derailleur with the flick of a switch to aid chain retention and reduce chain-slap off road.
The little things that matter
With Chris Boardman as Chairman of the company, Boardman have a wealth of experience to draw on and are always looking at the fine details when developing bikes. Using data from hundreds of bike fits and insight from bike fit experts, they have made simple changes to the touch points of the bikes. They’ve worked to develop a range of saddles using advanced pressure mapping and real-world testing to make sure any saddle on a Boardman bike is going to suit the majority of people riding it. The ADV models went through exhaustive testing to find the perfect combination of bars and stem to give controlled yet responsive handling meaning you’ll get a confidence inspiring feel whether on your daily commute or hitting the trails.
Versatile tyres
With a 38mm width, Addix compound and good tread pattern the Schwalbe G-One Allround offers great grip for off-road tracks and dry trail sections but has a low rolling resistance so that speed is not overly compromised on the road. The extra width offered over a traditional road tyre allows for lower tyre pressure and better comfort both on and off road, and Schwalbe’s Raceguard layering reduces the risk of punctures. Setting up tubeless mean you can ditch that spare tube, it’ll lighten your wheels and enable you to run even grippier pressures.
Boardman ADV 8.9 accessories
To give you confidence to take your new bike anywhere the Kryptonite Evo Mini7 lock and flex cable are lightweight but incredibly secure, the loop cable making sure your front wheel is locked up too. Ideal for night time riding on and off road riding as well as lengthy canal tunnels the Bikehut Front 1000 Bike Light and Bikehut Rear 50 Bike Light pair perfectly to provide ample light no matter how much speed you’re carrying.
