To celebrate the launch of the new range, Boardman have pushed the boat out and upgraded their most popular carbon road bike. Not only does the SLR 8.9c have a stunning paint fade finish but they’ve also upgraded the groupset to the smooth and light weight 11 Speed Shimano 105. The old bike scored 4.5 out of 5 in several magazine reviews with the only criticisms being for the 10 speed gears, so this new model markedly improves on what customers and critics told us was already a great package at a market beating price.
The New Boardman SLR 8.9c Road Bike has exactly the same aero tube profiles and geometry as the top of the range SLR 9.6 and so comes with an excellent pedigree. Features such as the integrated seat clamp will reduce drag further and yet dropped seat stays underneath you and a full carbon fork both help with maintaining comfort.
We’ve not forgotten that most of us ‘feel the need for speed’ though and a stiff bottom bracket area means that the bike responds instantly when you put the power down. With respected components such as Vittoria Rubino Pro IV tyres you are assured of a bike that’s fast and agile enough to race, comfortable enough for longer days in the saddle and also brilliant Value for Money.

More About The New Boardman SLR 8.9c Road Bike
Slick and purposeful gears
Shimano 105 R7000 doesn’t just look great, it also performs brilliantly giving swift and sure shifting with a light touch. The integrated levers are ergonomically designed for general comfort with chamfered tops meaning your grip is assured even when it’s hot and sweaty. The 50-34 Chainring and 11-30 Cassette give a good range for UK and Irish conditions so there’s every reason to take on even the toughest of challenges.
Impressive Carbon frame and forks
The SLR 8.9c uses the same aero tube profiles and geometry as the top of the range SLR 9.6, with our C7 carbon being used in both frame and fork. The frame is designed to combine great stiffness and ride quality whilst the aero tube profiles give riders more speed for the same effort. Features such as the integrated seat clamp reduce drag, whilst dropped seat stays and the full carbon fork help maintain comfort. The stiff, oversized PF86 bottom bracket area means that the bikes responds instantly when you put the power down.
The little things that matter
Working alongside Chris Boardman means we’ve a wealth of experience to draw on and are encouraged to tweak and develop our bikes. Using wind tunnel analysis and a bit of common sense we realised that the one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce drag is to reduce the riders frontal area. To this end we looked at all components and have made simple changes to bar width and crank length for different frame sizes to reduce drag and boost performance for no extra cash.
