The longer handle provides extra leverage when dealing with stubborn pedals and the rubber handle ensures comfort when in use.
When removing or installing pedals it's worth remembering that the left pedal is always reverse threaded, which means the left pedal is tightened by turning the pedal in the anti-clockwise direction and loosened by turning the pedal in the clockwise direction. The right pedal is the opposite and has a normal thread, so is tightened in a clockwise direction, and loosened in an anti-clockwise direction.
For stubborn or seized pedals to help with removal it can be beneficial to use a penetrating oil such as GT85. Before installing new pedals it's always good practice to apply grease to the pedal threads, this helps to prevent creaking, protects the threads of the crankarms and stops the pedals from becoming seized.
