Halfords Clear Coat Touch up Brush

The Halfords Clear Coat Touch up Brush leaves a lasting gloss on freshly painted and older panels alike, for a scratch and shock-resistant finish that shines.

It can be safely used on a variety of surfaces away from your car too, including metal, aluminium, wood, glass, stone, and various types of plastic (with an appropriate primer and colour coat).

This lacquer locks in your results to leave your paintwork gleaming, and adds extra resistance to petrol, chemicals, and the weather for a finish that lasts. It has excellent filling properties to remove any light imperfections, and helps to prevent corrosion.

    Directions for use:

    • Make sure your colour coat has been fully applied and is completely dry. You might need to lightly sand it (using P1200 wet & dry sandpaper) to buff out any imperfections or to add texture to your old paint to help the lacquer adhere. Take a tack cloth and remove any dust on the panel.
    • When lacquering an existing surface that has NOT been freshly painted, use a surface cleaner or degreaser and a lint-free cloth to remove any contaminants.
    • Use masking tape and masking paper to fully mask off the vehicle, leaving just the area to be lacquered exposed.
    • If you’re just doing a spot repair on a section of a single panel, leave an extra 30cm beyond the freshly painted colour edge so that the paint lacquer can be blended into the surrounding old paint.
    • Shake the pen for 1 minute, then apply a first thin “dust” coat to give best possible adhesion to the paint.
    • Where repairing part of a panel, avoid spraying all the way up to the masked edge, stopping just before to make the final blending easier.
    • Allowing time in-between coats, slowly build up the layers of paint until a uniform thickness and coverage is achieved (this should be 2-3 coats).
    • If you’re painting part part of a panel, wait until the lacquer is dry then use Halfords Fade Out Thinners to create a smooth transition between the edges of the old and new lacquer. This flattens the matte textured edges of the lacquer to seamlessly blend the repair.
    • Allow the paint to dry completely, following the time guidance on the can, before you reassemble, polish, wash, or use the vehicle.

    CAUTIONS:
*The drying time can change depending on the ambient temperature, humidity and the thickness of the coats applied. Ensure the paint is fully dry before moving onto the next stage.
Take care when preparing older paint surfaces (pre-1970) as these may contain harmful lead.
Make sure you have enough ventilation in the area you’re painting in to prevent a harmful build-up of solvent gasses.
