National Tyres and Autocare
Now a part of the Halfords family, National Tyres and Autocare specialises in tyre fitting as well as a host of other car repair services, from brakes and batteries to MOTs and servicing. National operates from both its nationwide network of branches and via its mobile fitting vehicles, to provide outstanding car care across the UK. The company also has a fleet service, National Fleet, to deliver bespoke, customer-driven services to the fleet market. National was acquired by Halfords in December 2021, bringing together the expertise of both companies to give our customers more choice.
Who are National Tyres and Autocare?
Based in Stockport, National Tyres and Autocare was formed in 1970 with the merger of several companies to create the UK's first national network of tyre fitting centres. The company consisted of over 240 branches across the UK, employing over a thousand highly trained technicians, with expertise in tyres, exhausts, brakes, batteries, MOT testing, and vehicle safety inspections.
National’s sister company, Viking Wholesale Tyres, is the UK's largest tyre and autocare component wholesaler, and also joins the Halfords family. Operating from eight warehouses spread throughout the UK, Viking supply a range of quality tyres nationwide, including directly to the National Tyres and Autocare branches, stocking brands like Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli, Continental, and Avon, as well as various budget brands.
What does the acquisition mean for customers?
In simple terms, the acquisition means that you’ll have more options than ever for all your motoring needs, whether it’s tyres, MOTs, or anything in between.
With National Tyres joining the Halfords family, we now have over 600 garages, over 200 consumer vans, and over 190 commercial vans – including our retail stores, that’s a combined total of over 1,400 fixed or mobile Motoring Services locations.
